A Guide to a Work-Life Balance for Hard-Working Employees

Nowadays, it’s common that work takes over our entire week, including weekends. It can be dreading and once you pause, the gravity of work itself can be felt. It’s common to lose sight of a work-life balance and it’s importance.

This is because technology makes work accessible anytime and anywhere. That’s why a sudden notification from your work email can put you into work mode even if it’s time for some relaxation or family bonding.

The times when you’re not at work and not working are considered as laziness by most people, which can add pressure.

Because of this, your life as a whole can be damaged. Although, it doesn’t mean that you should give up your career to save your life.

A lot of people talk about having a work-life balance but how can you really achieve that?

Good thing we have a guide to a work-life balance for you!

1. It’s Okay to Not Be Perfect

Being hired out of the hundreds, if not thousands, of applicants will naturally bring out the competitiveness in you.

Achieving perfection is very common in the workplace. That’s why most employees have a hard time maintaining a work-life balance

As you climb the corporate ladder, being perfect gets harder and will consume most of your time.

You should know that committing mistakes is all part of life and this can be your stepping stone to be better.

2. There’s a Time and Place for Everything

If you’re always logged in your office email, then it’s inevitable that you’ll sacrifice time for other things outside of work.

Reading and replying to an email or two is fine, but if you find yourself working on a project, then you’re not using your time wisely.

During the weekend, you can log out of your office email from your phone and computer. If you think that there’s an important message waiting on your inbox, you can allow yourself a strict one hour.

This will not only ensure that you spend your time with your loved ones, but you’ll also practice time management.

3. Exercise and Meditate!

It’s not just your loved ones and chores that need your attention but also yourself. You should also nourish your mind, body, and soul.

The perfect way to do this is through exercise and meditation. Exercising release endorphins which are the happy hormones. You’ll feel happy and motivated after a session.

Meditation is the perfect way to tune your mind and create a healthy mindset. You don’t need to go to yoga for meditation. A simple breathing exercise is enough to recharge your mind!

4. Identify Your Priorities

It’s very easy to be engulfed with work especially since it consumes most of our days and it’s always available.

Identify your goals and plans and determine who you are doing it for. Find the meaning in all things that you do so that you know where you should put most of your effort.

At work, it’s better if you practice the 5-minute rule wherein you list things that you can do in 5 minutes. Challenge yourself to be effective and efficient.

Identifying your priorities will help you cut down on procrastinating and you’ll see how much time you save.

5. Create a Plan and Do It Consistently

Planning your work week sounds unusual but this can actually help you accomplish more things and help you spend time outside of work.

Remember that having a plan is not effective without action. Being consistent with your plan can do you wonders. It might not affect you much in the first few days, even weeks, but with consistency, the changes will just keep on coming.

Having and following a strict plan, however, doesn’t mean that you can’t have idle time and procrastination in the office.

Allow yourself to commit mistakes here and there but learn to identify the problem and work towards a solution.
